Leatherworking & Self-Tanning Guide
Overview
Leather tanning is performed through self-tanning vats with dye buckets.
Players soak hides to create wet leathers, which must then be dried to become usable materials.
This process ties directly to Hunter level requirements and grants Crafting XP based on hides processed.
Requirements
- Bucket of Dye (consumed during tanning, returns empty bucket)
- Animal Hides (cow, bear, or dragonhide variations)
- High Hunter Level (scales per leather type)
- Access to a Dryer Object for the final stage
Self-Tanning Process
Using a hide on a bucket of dye starts the process.
Animations, sounds, and XP gain match the script logic.
Soft Leather
- Input: 1 Cow Hide + 1 Bucket of Dye
- Hunter Level: 100+
- Output: 1 Wet Leather
- XP: 100 Crafting XP per hide
Hard Leather
- Input: All Cow Hides in inventory + 1 Bucket of Dye
- Hunter Level: 145+
- Output: Wet Hard Leather (equal to number of hides)
- XP: 150 Crafting XP per hide
Bear Leather
- Input: 1 Bear Hide + 1 Bucket of Dye
- Hunter Level: 50+
- Output: 1 Wet Bear Leather
- XP: 100 Crafting XP per hide
Dragon Leathers
Processed in batches (all hides of one color).
Consumes all hides of that type + 1 Bucket of Dye.
Green Dragon Leather
- Hunter Level: 200+
- Output: Wet Green Dragon Leather
- XP: 250 Crafting XP per hide
Blue Dragon Leather
- Hunter Level: 230+
- Output: Wet Blue Dragon Leather
- XP: 250 Crafting XP per hide
Red Dragon Leather
- Hunter Level: 240+
- Output: Wet Red Dragon Leather
- XP: 250 Crafting XP per hide
Black Dragon Leather
- Hunter Level: 250+
- Output: Wet Black Dragon Leather
- XP: 250 Crafting XP per hide
Leather Drying (Using the Dryer)
Once soaked, wet leathers must be dried to complete the tanning.
Each tier requires the same Hunter level as the tanning step and grants additional XP.
- Wet Leather → Soft Leather: +100 XP per hide
- Wet Hard Leather → Hard Leather: +125 XP per hide
- Wet Bear Leather → Bear Leather: +125 XP per hide
- Wet Dragon Leather (all types) → Final Leather: +150–275 XP per hide (scales by color/tier)
Notes
- Buckets return empty after each tanning process.
- Only one hide is processed at a time for Soft and Bear Leather, but Hard Leather and Dragon Leathers process all hides in inventory at once.
- XP gains scale using multipliers:
- Soft/Bear: ×100
- Hard: ×150
- Dragon: ×250
Summary
- Soak hides in dye vats (Hunter level required).
- Gain Crafting XP when hides are converted to wet leathers.
- Dry hides to finalize the tanning process and gain additional XP.
- Use Hard & Dragon tanning for bulk efficiency, while Soft & Bear tanning process single hides.
